Antique French porcelain is among the most beautiful and widely collected porcelains in the world. Baskets are a particular favorite of mine, and I have several in my collection. This one, in the shape of a navette or marquis, is the centerpiece on our fireplace mantel. I especially love filling it with flowers and moss; there's something so beautiful about seeing all that lush green color through its pierced white shapes. For Easter, I filled it with handblown eggs in soft shades of cream, pale pink and blue.
This basket I found years ago up in Stamford, CT. Nowadays, you can find them at antique stores and flea markets for about $100-200. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, some with gilded edging, though I much prefer the white. That way, the color of the flowers (or eggs) can sing!
