Years ago, when we weren't so concerned about decluttering our homes (and our lives), when there was room in our cupboards for a few extravagances if they made for a more beautiful table, food and its particular serving utensil, always went hand-in-hand. Asparagus with an asparagus server; fish with a fish server; salt with a salt spoon; and, one of my favorite pairings, mustard with a mustard spoon. Here, assorted silver, coin silver and silverplate mustard spoons accompany a white French porcelain pot I picked up in Paris. What an uncommonly elegant way to serve a common dish!
These I found at flea markets, as I often do, digging through boxfuls of silver. Just remember: because of their small size, mustard spoons almost always fall to the bottom!
