Last weekend, while Jaithan and I were house hunting upstate, we did a quick spin through a great Goodwill Store on the way.
Like the Salvation Army, the inventory at Goodwill Stores changes constantly, so you never know what you'll find, especially when it comes to furniture. Check out this awesome demilune table!
But that's not all! About ten feet away from the demilune, you're not going to believe the chairs I found to go along with it. I think they're going to make a great Before & After. For the full story, including lots of great decorating and entertaining ideas with stuff all found at the Goodwill, be sure to check back tomorrow!

Hi Eddie--you inspired me and I stopped at the Goodwill on the way to my cottage(getting sort of cold in Michigan to be going to the cottage, but I digress)--thinking I'd find nothing. I walked into the glass/china section and filling a shelf was a huge set of Victorian pattern glass--from the 1880's--(very Martha)stems, butter dish, pairs of celery vases &spooners, covered compote, bowls, cake stand, a bread tray, sauce dishes, etc. I bought it all--and a pair of Tiffany crystal candlesticks(the modern kind, not old)and the total was........$38!!! I would have never believed it--thanks for putting the thought in my head.

Bummer you changed your feed settings to force a click through that stinks. I like getting everything in my feed reader. Don't have time to click through.
Will you be switching back?? If not I'll just unsubscribe and try and remember to visit when I have time.
Thanks! It has been fun reading your blog and learning so much especially thrift store and flea market shopping!!

Eddie, I enjoy viewing your blogs each day and watching your designs on "Top Design". What type of paint do you recommend one use when painting older furniture. Also, interested in purchasing a few furniture items for my daughter at Ikea. Since their furniture not solid wood, what steps do you recommend I take before painting their furniture. I thought sanding first and then paint, not sure what type of paint recommended. Whatever recommendations you can offer are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Eddie, you don't just have luck - you have the "eye" for style, clean lines and the imagination to visualize the "after".
I've noticed that thrift stores have better items on sale during the day on a weekday - before lunch is sometimes the best time to go shopping!!

You have all the luck Eddie. I'm definitely going this weekend and I hope I find half the goodies you seem to find. I love the demilune and can hardly wait to see more.

I know that Goodwill Store! It's near my house (in upstate NY). Next time you go by there, stop in at the Salvation Army Store right up the street (it's small, in the row of stores just before the Home Depot). Great finds in both places, if you really look.

Love the demilune! Very classic -- perhaps painted in paler gray or left au naturel? Can't wait to see the rest of the treasures! You always look wonderful in photos! :)

seriously, YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. Eddie, I'm beginning to think you stage this whole thing.
I went to our salvation army (completely inspired by you) and I found icky gross, icky. I needed a swimmers nose plug to get me through it all.
ok, well actually I did find a few mint julep cups. but they were from two's company...so that didn't really count.

For those of you who think you can't find anything at Goodwill - always take a closer look - anything can be refreshed with paint or polish!!! ie: picture frames and even kitschy statues can be spray- painted with a matte finish and would look lovely on a bookcase or fireplace mantel!

Hi Eddie, this weekend my daughter-in-law and I went to our local Goodwill. she is like you and goes all the time and has a wonderful eye, I on the otherhand have not frequented it in years. Welllll,I got a wonderful gold ceramic pheasant statue, very classic looking and 4 desert plates in cream with wheat embossed around the edges(another great addition to my Thanksgiving table)I think Mr.Pheasant will be used for next years table. She found a darling bud vase in cream , turned it over and it was Beleek for 1.99. We both agreed we should be on your team, had so much fun putting things together the Eddie way. You just inspire us SOOOOO well!xoxoKathysue

Ok, you finally got me to the goodwill the other day. No finds I couldn't live without, however I really took time, and asked myself, "What would Eddie think of this"

Eddie, you are an inspiration to my decorating sense. I have been following your blog for a few months and I love everything I see. You have opened my eyes to the Goodwill and the endless possibilities. In addition to housewares I've began collecting records. It's amazing the old vinyls you will find there!

Mr. Ambassador, how DO you find these things? I was thrilled last week after visiting our Goodwill and snagging an oh, so tarnished silver plated tray. Some hard work and voila, it's a beauty! You've made monsters of many of us...P.S. LOVE your entertaining tips on the side!!!

I am convinced that cream rises to the top.
Good things must just rise to meet you at Goodwill, shouting out -"Yoo hoo, over here Eddie!" "Pick me....!"
