To thank you again for all your sweet comments this week, here's an arrangement I made that's seasonal, sophisticated and a touch surprising. Of course, I wish I could have sent one to every one of you, but for now, we'll have to make do with a photograph, won't we?
In a simple glass cylinder, I used an exuberant mix of antique hydrangeas, roses, calla lilies, thistle and berries. Everything was inexpensive, but it's the color palette—a soft, muted mix of burgundy, dark purple and peach—that makes the arrangement look as though it could have arrived at your door from Takashimaya itself, one of the most beautiful (and expensive!) floral boutiques in New York. Here's another trick of the trade: If you're using a mix of flowers, as I did here, all with stems of varying color and size, line the vase with a large variegated leaf. I think it makes for a look that's much prettier and more pulled together, don't you? Enjoy your flowers, everyone, and thank you!

Eddie, love u!

Gorgeous! Seriously, is there anything you can't do well? I don't think so! ;)

absolutely stunning!!
I was finally able to watch top design this weekend and I have to say that you were robbed! I love Nathan (and usually love his fun design), but was not fond of his room at all. I would love to sleep in your lovely sanctuary that you created! I'm pleased to see from the previews that you will be back for the finale (however it seems that you are going to be paired up with Preston!!?!). good or bad, I am so happy that you were on the show so that I was able to be introduced to your blog! xo Aline

So beautiful and elegant. If this is what is "granny" than give me granny--anytime!

Thank you so much for the wonderful flowers. They are just as wonderful as you are! Come to Napa soon for a proper visit. I could cook a little something and we could drink some of my husband's wine. I would even set the table with white Italian linens and my sterling buccellati. We would have so much fun invisioning how to set the beautiful table!!!!!!

Eddie,
thanks for the GREAT flowers!! You are very TALENTED!! I wish you lots of success in your future endeavors!!

Eddie - thanks for all the lessons with this bouquet: leaf liner and color, of course. But what caught my eye was the different sizes of the flower heads, berries etc. I am a gardener and do lots of bouquets but I would not have thought to mix those big hydrangea heads with other flowers of such small sizes. Lesson learned and appreciated. Thanks!

I, too, look forward to seeing what you bring to the Thanksgiving table.
Beautiful flowers - actions speak so much louder than words!

Lovely! Just brilliant! Soft yet just colorful enough to let my guests know that I cared enough to do something special. Thank you so much for the thought and idea for a luncheon I'm having next week for a special friend. Just the right touch. I so enjoy your post; everything is so do-able!

Eddie, you totally rock. Thanks for the good karma today with the flowers and back at you. You are so much sweeter than good old reality TV portrayed and I'm officially raising my glass to you and Jaithan . . . here's to you achieving all your dreams and being surrounded by lots of folks who love you.
Cheers!

Flowers?? For me??? You shouldn't have!! But you did...and THANKS!!
And just like you...they are...WONDERFUL!!!
How have you made it this long without being scooped up by some network and offered a show?? There is something wrong with this picture...What can I do to help right this wrong?? Is there someone I should call/threaten/stalk/maim/hurt (this is meant with the utmost humor--I don't want to scare any of your readers ;-)? You just say the word...and I'll do it!!
You soooo NEED/DESERVE your own show.
Wishing you well and hoping to see you on you own show soon...

I just love the colors and different textures you used. I have bright pink hydrangeas and just a few times I can find them in sage greens and plums which my eye was drawn to immediately. Lovely.

Dear Eddie, thank you so much for the flowers and inspiration. I'll try to recreate smaller and simplified versions in three vases for my Thanksgiving table.

Thank you for such a gorgeous arrangement -- such a soft palette -- just like the best worn chintz on a favorite armchair. DH liked it too -- and we wondered where you found the thistles? Are they available at local stores in New York? Or do you go to a flower market? Just the mere THOUGHT of a flower market makes me smile!! If you can, please could you post photos of local food and flower markets? Thanks!
Cheers! Jan at Rosemary Cottage

Hi, Eddie, first time commenter here! Enjoyed watching you on Top Design & sorry to see you go last week. I can see you have lots of things going on, so I'm sure you'll be busy doing what you love to do. I'm a decorator in AL & am happy to see you love to shop at Goodwill & thrift also...I'm a huge yardsaler & thrifter. Love those things you found in your store! It's so much fun to find treasures among the trash. Your portfolio pics are gorgeous! I'll be back.

i happened to watch a halloween episode of "martha" the other day and as i watched i thought her show, her personality , her interaction with her guest was sooooo flat and boring. just sad. i thought martha has fallen behind the times and then it hit me. she needs YOU on the tv with her! she needs a jolt of eddie ross LIVE!

Eddie, you are super talented and inspire me daily. I sometimes don't think simple and heirloom designs don't get appreciated enough by super-modern minds. You are fabulous!!

I hope that you don't mind, but I mentioned your blog within my blog today. I love your work and creativity, and though I work in the realm of botanical art, I love interior design as well. I think your blog is one of the best around.
For me, it is a daily indulgence, and I wanted to spread the word. Thanks so much.

Thank you for the arrangement - it's beautiful, wild, and romantic. The mix of thistle with roses.. very yin/yang. Love it!!!
Posted by: Christy | November 01, 2008 at 12:41 PM
Lovely arrangement.
Even though your style reminds me of an updated English country look, any designer that even hints to a classical design bent is ostracized on Top Design.
I suppose Bee Hive Head and Clown Dresser have their following, but I'm not one of them.

Oh Eddie, You are too sweet and talented. I love the mix of flowers . the berries and thistle add just the right texture. You must be worn out with all the activity around you. Take care. Oh by the way I picked up my linen table cloth from the monogrammer yesterday and I am good to go for Thanksgiving!!! Can't wait for more motivation. smiles Kathysue
