Next time you're in line at the supermarket, trying hard to distract yourself from that certain someone, toting twelve items in the ten and under line, pick up a copy of Country Living. It's the first issue from editor-in-chief Sarah Gray Miller, and I have to say—I'm loving the new direction of the magazine! Everything in it is so fresh and relaxing, while still keeping a level of sophistication. Sarah herself is such a sweet person, and I'm super excited for everything she, and her incredibly talented team of editors, including my dear friend Frances Bailey, have in store for us!
In fact, for a great little story on decorating with dishes...
I was even asked to give some friendly advice on the subject!
As a collector, I love using dishes, platters, and plates on walls. They always make me so happy! Even all those onsies you're probably passing up at the flea market can make for a beautiful composition. Group them together—you might even try mirroring them—and they really do dress up a wall! Speaking of compositions, come back Monday for even more advice on how to make the ones in your home picture perfect!

Love the dishes used in tea table setting with yellow and blue flower centerpiece. It is picture 21 in the professional portfolio. Dying to know what they are!! Thank you,

Lost your info, could NOT remember your name. Did today! Ta, da :)
Country Business Magazine included one of my pieces of art in the Jan. New & Noteworthy section. Different mag, but hey we are both in a mag and both say Country in the title. Small world!
Glad I found you again,
Pam

I have been a Country Living subscriber for years and was thrilled to see that you were asked to contribute to this issue! My first thought was "2 of my favorites in the same place!".
Also, I will admit that I was apprehensive about the editorial change and was relieved to find that I loved this issue as much ever.

I thought this magazine was going bye bye too... GOOD to hear it is NOT! I will run out and BUY it and STIMULATE the economy!
ENJOY your weekend!

Saw your little quote as I was browsing through my monthly issue of CL and thought "Oh Goodie! They've tapped into the mighty talent of Eddie Ross!" With so many magazines folding, I hold out great hope for Country Living, which was in my home growing up and is still in my home now that I'm a grown up!

I agree, I think you need to have a magazine of your very own. A place to channel that wealth of talent and inspiration! You could call it RossWay, because there is the wrong way and then the Ross Way!
I have always loved Country Living. Its one of the few magazines that actually have practical ideas for the ordinary person. I can actually see myself in some of the rooms they shoot! I am glad that your friend is now EIC! Maybe I will treat myself to a subscription? Mmmmm

Oh, and I really hope I WIN that Singer embroidery machine!! Seeing that offer distracted me from your "friendly advice" for a minute. HAD to enter that contest!

I subscribe to several mags and Country Living is one of my favorites. Can't wait to see more "Eddie Ross" articles!

Eddie!
I have just discovered you a couple of days ago - you are so gifted. I LOVE how you recycle the old (and sometimes new) into exciting and useable things. And always elegant. You remind me of Betsy Speert - another designer I adore. In one of her old houses she took a radiator cover, turned it upside down and used it as a kitchen cupboard - one of a kind inspiration! Just like you:)
All of the work and heart you put into your blog is so VERY much appreciated. Your respect and love of your Jaithan also shines through - how lucky you two are!
Well sheesh - I could go on for ages. Thank you for sharing your life and talent with us all. You have brightened my whole year!!
Kindest Regards,
Karen

Happy Weekend, from Memphis:)

I got through about half of mine last night and was loving it!! I always look forward to my copy arriving in the mail:)

Love the cover! Remember the old Victoria Magazine from years ago? That was so lovely. I saved those editions because they were so beautifully shot and styled. I think you need a magazine of your own Eddie :) Call it something like 'Gorge' I would buy it and so would many others. I see you doing step by step do-it-yourself projects and all sorts of great things. You could take us all through the season's at your lovely new home and decorating for the holidays, your garden and photo's of fabulous parties with the menu's you will plan. Is it a thought of yours I hope? Have a great weekend both of you gents.
Luv,
Christie

Country Living is one of my subscriptions. I've watched it through each change since the beginning.
I can't wait to see the new issue. Hope it's in the stack of mail, when we return from the lake.
Hope all is going well with your new home!

Saw the new issue today, when I was at Target. I thumbed through it, looks good!
Hope the country life is agreeing with you! I have always been a city / country girl on (weekends) as my family has always lived in the city, but had land outside the city.
Have a great weekend.

Wait, I thought CL was going bye-bye? Or was that Country Home? I need some good news to ease my Domino grief.
Posted by: Becky | February 20, 2009 at 12:57 PM
I've loved this magazine a LONG time. It's one I just can't seem to recycle and find I have a huge pile in no time.
Posted by: Susan | February 20, 2009 at 12:56 PM
It's a sign of the times, but my first thought at seeing Country Living pop up on my screen was that I was about to hear of one more great home magazine going under.
Country Home, Cottage Living and Domino...I just don't understand how they all go under and yet all the really obscure magazines like AAA Battery Lover's Gazette and Beanie Baby World (I made those up, but there are a million just like that) just go on and on.
Things are changing too fast these days.

I just spotted this the other day at the Dr. with my daughter and loved it. I keep wanting a country life.

What is is about dishes especially plates. Just got myself a new set for everyday and posted a pic on my blog. They look so pretty on the plate rack in the kitchen. It makes me smile when I look at them. Maybe it's the possibilities they represent. Dinners with family, or old friends or new friends. Maybe it's the possibility of all the celebrations they will be a part of.

I had heard that they were going under, so you can imagine how happy I was when my issue arrived in the mail this month! I was concerned when Nancy & alot of the old staff left.
