Jaithan and I are in D.C. for a few days meeting lots of fantastic new friends! First, Michele with My Notting Hill hosted a beautiful party at her home on Friday, where we had the honor of meeting so many local bloggers, including Meg with Pigtown Design, Allison with Matters of Style, Stefan with Architect Design, Thomas with My White Shirt, Leila with In the Tweeds, Jenn with Department of the Interior, Annie with Bossy Color, Pat with Pat's Addition, Beth with Chinoiserie Chic and finally, all the way from Calgary, Terri from Windlost. We even got a chance to see our good friends Lauren with Pure Style Home and her husband Dave. We met them on our very first flea market shopping trip last November!
Speaking of, we'll be hitting up the D.C. Big Flea this weekend with readers, so be sure to check back next week for everything we found! Oh and while we're here, do you have any favorite stores, restaurants or museums for us? We'd love to hear about them!

I had a wonderful time at Michele's party and it was so astoundingly cool to meet you both! Jaithan - it was great chatting with you and Eddie, you are amazing as I expected!
I blogged about the party here:

We had such a delightful time at the DC Big Flea, and such a pleasure to finally meet both you, Eddie and Jaithan. You were both such gracious (and funny) guides, and we so appreciate your coming all the way to DC to be with us and share your ideas. Never would have thought of vintage coats redone as pillows without you! Such inspiration! Am definitely going to sign up for one of your flea market trips in NY City soon, before your presences are too much in demand. Can't wait for your entertaining book!

I've heard that Bethesda has a nifty design district. Also, don't forget about all the cool stuff in the Smithsonian, including Julia Child's kitchen.
Let me know if your travels bring you to the Tampa/St. Petersburg area.

For furniture that can be refinished check out Ruff and Ready on 14th between T and U Streets NW. Most suff in one space I've ever seen! There are some other great stores in that stretch of 14th, including Miss Pixies. Enjoy!

Thanks so much for a great weekend! It was a great learning lesson with lots of laughs! For being new friends you certainly felt like old ones :) I will always remember my purchases (Crystal candlesticks, cake servers and that beautiful twisted mother of pearl handled olive fork) with your excellent advice! Hope to see you the next time you're in DC/VA and if you need a place to stay we're happy to "steal" you for a night!

Hi Guys. I love to hear about your travels. When you go to Kansas City this year, be sure to visit the Nelson Atkins Art Gallery to see the finest Chinese statue in America, the Buddhist Bodahvista, Kwan Yin. A Bodhisattva is a Buddhist saint who has achieved Nirvana, but has refused to go to Heaven. Kwan Yin saw too much suffering in the world and decided to stay on earth to help those who need her. She is the most loved and revered of all Buddhist saints. I first saw that statue, which is made of wood, when I was a child. It affected me so deeply that I became a follower of Kwan Yin as soon as life taught me to understand what she represents. The statue looks like it might be a beautiful young man, because Kwan Yin was portrayed as a man for several centuries. I guarantee that when you stand before her, both of your hearts will be touched as never before.

Eddie and Jaithan- Loved meeting you Friday night and of course I had the best time on the tour Saturday. It made my day when Eddie told me I can put silver in the dishwasher! Tomorrow I'll be doing a recap of the tour on Matters of Style- hope you'll take a peek- and I will also send you some pix of my purchases- mostly silver! Allison

If you find yourselves down on the National Mall, the best eatery is the cafeteria at the Museum of the American Indian. From there, it's a short walk to one of my favorite spots on the Mall-- the U.S. Botanical Gardens.
I second the suggestion for visiting Hillwood and I would also include a visit to the National Cathedral. From the top of the tower, you have a stunning view of the entire metropolitan area.
Otherwise, enjoy. The weather next weekend is expected to be quite beautiful.

Eddie!
I love Lebanese Taverna in Pentagon Row if you like Lebanese food! The puffed pita and humus is so delish! There is a fun gift and home decor store in Fairfax called, The Nest Egg, http://www.shopthenestegg.com/, plus the whole area is fun and there is a furniture store called Arhaus, http://www.arhaus.com/. Other good restaurants there, but one of my fave is Coastal Flats.
Have fun, I do wish I was there with you...I really miss the area!
Blessings...

Eddie - your blog is the best, and you have great style. Since you love beautiful antiques and gardens, have you been to Hillwood, Anderson House, Tudor Place or Dumbarton Oaks? So many museums -Phillips Collection, Renwick Gallery, National Gallery of Art, Freer Collection are all tops. Casual dining: Good Stuff, Spike from Top Chef's burger place. Great weather in DC now, have fun!

The National Portrait Gallery (http://www.npg.si.edu/) is a great museum, and their collection is fantastic. It has a great range of stuff, from portraits of the founding fathers, to the iconic "Obama" poster from the 2008 campaign. And it's right in Gallery Place, with wonderful restaurants nearby. You might like Proof (http://www.proofdc.com/), another wine bar and restaurant, which is supposed to be one of the best in DC.

Great to meet you both! Loads of fun all 'round!

You should definitely check out Luckett's Antique store.
http://oldluckettstoreantiques.nova-antiques.com/
It is about 20 minutes North of DC Flea, off of route 15 North. The antique store fills the floors and yard of a beautiful, rickety old home. After shopping you can drive another mile or two down the dirt road and enjoy a glass (or bottle!) of wine at Tarara Winery.
Have fun!
