Next month we're heading back to California to shop the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena, one of my favorites in the state. Remember this little nugget from Apartment Therapy the last time we were there? Here I am, kneeling at the altar as usual.
Hollywood Regency, anyone?Yes, please.
Event designer Deanna Nash nabbed up this pair of Draper-esque lamps only moments after I pointed them out. It's pretty often on these trips that folks end up buying the things I talk about, and usually, there isn't even a fight! Take another California flea market, this one up north at Alameda Point, not too far from where we filmed the Halloween special for HGTV.
Here's some pretty fabric for kitchen towels that was never cut and hemmed. It's either Irish or Checkoslovakian linen, probably from the 20s. I'd use it as a runner for an elegant spring brunch, I told the group, topped with Jadite plates and pretty pink napkins.
Cindy Stewart and her friend Mary liked the idea so much, they took it home themselves! And for flowers? Pretty lavender glass spooners from a vendor in Alameda with a dazzling collection. This compote I loved for its unusual, modern shape. For brunch, I'd use it for serving fruit salad, beautifully melon-balled. Jean Tepper, who was the first to sign up for the December trip back in April, didn't waste any time.
And neither should you! Our Rose Bowl trip on Sunday, March 14 is going fast ($55 per person, including admission). Email Jaithan (jaithan@eddieross.com) for a spot. For more pics (with captions!) from the Alameda show, click here. See you in California, everyone!

Oh. Eddie. What inspiring, amazing great taste you have. I would so love to go treasure hunting with you. Fabulous finds! I would love to get those lamps and repurpose them. Oh, so pretty. Finding your blog truly made my day today. A perfect B-day present!

Ok, so I have some awesome lamps. What do you suggest as a lamp shade for big beautiful old detailed lamps? Anthro lamp shade? Plain white? Should I add a color of bias tape on the bottom to connect the two? See, Im in lost lamp land?

I can't wait for the weather to get nice and warm (and the snow to melt) on the east coast so I can go to some flea markets. Have fun.

Eddie and Jaithan...You should also set up a booth there and take turns selling. Don't bring anything...just buy it all there and resell it. Wouldn't that be fun? Teach your pupils how to become dealers!!! Sounds like a plan. xo, Rosemary

Radio, print and local magazine ads are all over the place so I know the event will be a huge success! Good luck and I cannot wait to read about it in Sunday's licing section!

From an old college professor: you should be kneeling at the
altar, not alter!

We lived in CA thru much of the nineties and so much of our furnishings came from the Rose Bowl (and from the Pasadena Community College flea market too!). Best finds ever...still in use...
search out some handsome Scottish lads selling new but classic furniture made from old Scottish (Scotch?) Pine they import. We have glorious shelving, coffee table, and a huge armoir. Great quality. Gorgeous looking. Cheap! Another prized find...a deco "telephone table" with a marble top. My friend Kathy and I used to go for the day with no cashs/no checks/no credit cards...just to look around. And we'd still manage to buy!! (COD still works!) BTW, is Todd Farm on the agenda for 2010?

What a wonderful trip, so wish I could come along with you! I grew up in California and amazingly, only made it to the Rose Bowl Flea Market once! To this day, I have never forgotten the gorgeous antique four poster spool bed I saw there. It still makes my heart flutter. xoTrina
