Spring is in bloom, everyone, so let's celebrate! Attention New York-area bloggers (and readers too!): This Saturday the 24th at 12 pm, join me for Color & Candlelight, a dazzling afternoon of beauty and inspiration at Gracious Home in Chelsea, sponsored by Creative Candles. The event is free and open to the public! Simply RSVP here, and make sure you specify press, bloggers, because there's a special champagne reception at 11:30, just for you, together with the editors of your favorite magazines! Now, to entice you even more, here's a taste of what's to come, starting with the spread we're doing. First, take your pick of gourmet tea sandwiches: classic cucumber, Comstock bacon and cream cheese, herbed egg salad and, my personal favorite, sesame-crusted chicken salad.
Add a glass of bubbly or chilled Sauvignon Blanc, then mix and mingle with the downtown crowd. And for the finish? Decadent cupcakes from Magnolia, my favorite bakery in the city!
Champagne in hand, we'll start the show! The topic on hand: Simple and beautiful ways of adding color to your home with candles. From the foyer to the backyard, formal dinner parties to casual get-togethers, I have plenty of eye candy in my collection to inspire your creativity this season. To start, here's a table for an elegant summer dinner, combining muted blues and apple greens.
This story was about the centerpiece, so white candles were fine, but for real life, why not take a cue from nature and use votives in all the pretty colors of the flowers? That way, your eye travels from the centerpiece out, all the way to the cushions. For added drama, I'd layer in beautiful tapers in glass candlesticks, reflecting color and light around the table. In decorating, too, I find so many missed opportunities for an easy and inexpensive way of adding color (and life!) to neutral rooms without the commitment of fabric and paint.
Love the pop color from the peonies on the sideboard, but why not carry it to the coffee table with a pair of tapers or even a single hurricane in a pretty shade of pink?
Speaking of, the hot pink candles I used for my window at Bloomingdale's brought another layer of color to the room, tying together the peonies on the side table with the pashmina on the sofa.So I hope you've enjoyed a sampling of the color, candlelight, beauty and inspiration in store for you this Saturday at Gracious Home in Chelsea. I'm even setting a springtime table, front and center in the store, especially for the event. And just so we all get our beauty sleep, we're starting at noon with a special champagne reception for editors and bloggers at 11:30. RSVP here, and we'll see you Saturday!

Nice article! My mouth is watering for that sesame-crusted chicken sandwich. Can you share the recipe?
As for the living room, it looks contemporary but cozy and inviting at the same time. Very neat and organized!

I've been contemplating a move out of my city and this makes me want to make my new location NY just so I can attend fabulous things like this.
You really have inspired me to keep an eye out for unexpected treasures in flea markets and thrift stores and take bigger changes with table settings and home decor. And my house (even though it's just a rental) feels a whole lot more like home as a result.
