After three weeks away, Jaithan and I decided to immerse ourselves in a little local culture this weekend. In tony Millbrook, N.Y., where the summer social season is well underway, that meant an afternoon of polo and Pinot Grigio at nearby Mashomack, a members-only polo and shooting club set on three and a half square miles of emerald fields in Pine Plains.
Rest assured: we were only guests attending the match, but that didn't mean we couldn't tailgate in style! Whether it's a picnic in the park or live music by the lake, summers are all about making the most of our time outdoors, so why not go the extra step and create something special? This rug I found at a thrift shop for 20 bucks; we use it for impromptu parties on the lawn all summer long. The copper icing tub is from Mauviel—remember the Chateau Chic event in the fall?—while the vintage table base and tole tray I found at Scott's in Atlanta last year. The tray was rusted in spots, so I cleaned it up with steel wool, gave it a coat of spray paint, and voilà! For a quick five or so minutes of packing, I'd say our spread fit the vibe nicely. A couple of clinks with our neighbors, and the match began! Here are a few scenes from around the field. My favorite was the Gatsbian couple in a sundress and seersucker suit, icing down their grill beside a 1950s convertible. How great is that? So here's to summer, everyone!Back shortly with a giveaway from our friends at The Well Appointed House you'll love!

I'm with Elizabeth on the storage issue. I LIVE FOR china, glassware, chargers, multitudes of placemats, candles (only PartyLite), and various other table and entertaining decor. One bdrm armoir is already filled and another stand-alone cabinet....what next?

Mosquito lantern
Two Scottish immigrants first arrived in New York in a hotel overnight, they were mosquitoes causing unrest throughout the night
Very angry, the last one said: "Sandy, with the quilt over my head, less than a mosquito to bite us
The. "After a child, Sandy puts his head out to breathe fresh air when he saw that had never been
Seen Firefly, so he shouted: "God, ah, over my head is useless, mosquito lantern
We find it. "

OMG! I LOVE THIS POST! Love the idea of the carpet. I'm stealing that concept for my next picnic. Lovely idea. I love the polo pictures, it reminds me of the West Coast equivalent of the Hollywood Bowl. How great- very Ralph Lauren. I always enjoy reading your entertaining posts.

Well, here in Chicago we also have polo. But I have to say, it looks a lot more 'snazzy' out by you. I just love your picnic set-up! And how do you manage to look so fabulous everywhere you go! I bet you would even look great on one of those polo ponies.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful adventures with us! I always enjoy visiting.

Tailgating is an art to itself. So great to have Mashomack in our backyard. Looks just like the races at Far Hill's.

How wonderful! It looks like you both had a great time. I really love Millerton and get there every chance I can, especially when driving from NY to CT, and also make sure to stop at Harney & Sons.

Love the vibe of this, what wonderful pictures - especially the couple, but all of them are great! How simple and special to set up on a vintage rug, I'll have to start looking for one for that purpose. :)
