I've always loved white. It soothes and stirs the soul, and I never grow tired of its infinite subtlety. In my catering days, I cultivated a voracious appetite for ironstone platters, layering one upon other in precarious stacks that have since followed me from city to country. For inspiration and delight all about white, click here. Now, to you: How do you decorate (or entertain!) with white?

If this isn't proof enough that the secretary NEEDS to be painted....well...not sure what else to say :)

Eddie: Thanks for renewing my interest in white dishes. I often overlook them when thrifting, but seeing them all together in the china cabinet makes all the difference.

Dearest Eddie,
I would like to get this issue! I went to the newsstand and they only had February 2012 then subscribed and called Country Living thinking it was Dec-Jan issue for which they are completely out of. Eddie when you post your magazine features can you please include in the posts issue date even page numbers if possible so we can collect your amazing articles? You are such a great designer and I love reading your blog! Love from the Big Apple!

I just love it. So crisp and clean. I'm a huge color person and have an all white kitchen. It's like a break from the rest of the house. Thanks for the inspiration! I may need to add more white to the other rooms.

My family teases me because when I help them decorate their homes, they know what I'm going to say, "More white!" Love the white carnation ball. Great idea.

I once bought a piece of white ironstone with the intention of selling it in my shop. I turned away for a moment, and not only did I end up keeping that first piece, but a collection began to emerge.
Needless to say, I haven't sold any ironstone in years :)
From platters to pitchers (the latter being my favorite), I display and use them all, every blessed day.

I am such a fan of white china where the white plates allow the beautiful colors in the food to shine, and there is nothing I love more than beautifully starched and pressed linens - yours are gorgeous.

I agree, white is so easy to live with. I worship at the altar of Tricia Foley, as she is the high priestess of white decorating. Great post, Eddie!

I have to say that I love the ironstone and have been a fan of it before it became the thing to collect..
Back in the 80's when still a teen, in Kansas of all places, I collected old linens and ironstone, so much more too.... It's funny that back then, I did not even know what to do with all these things but I loved them and collected them along with vintage clothing..... Years later all I was collecting became the vogue...
You have been able to take all of your experience and make a handsome living, ( I am sure) from it, not an easy task.....
I so enjoy how you also, let us into your life with your guy and your upstate home...
xoxo

get out of my way, I'm going to the paint store! Also, kinda out of context, I've started wearing a lot of white on my upper self, very refreshing and brightens up the ol complexion.

White is both calming and classical. Also, if you have a lot of plain, white items, than any special or colorful ones will have an intensified impact.

Hi Eddie and Jaithan~I love the whites too! I have the same secretary desk, and I wondered if you painted the interior, and how you handled the mullions on the glass doors from the interior view~as they will be brown unless you take the glass doors/mullions all apart...any advice?
