At this time of year, I always tell everyone that I can reach not to buy bittersweetand not to take it from the wild. It cannot replenish itself if it is cut back very much at all.
My friend in Kansas had a wonderful orange drape of bittersweet growing on a tree. She loved to take her friends there to enjoy its beauty. Someone, without thinking or knowing the consequences, treked across her field and cut down most of it, probably to decorate their home for Thanksgiving. Now there is no bittersweet and there will be no more from those roots.
Some things belong to Mother Nature and cannot be taken from her. Bittersweet is one of those sacred things.
Please, everyone, leave it if you find some bittersweet. Take photographs and enjoy this wonder of nature, but remember that it will bring bad luck to anyone who steals it from Mother Nature.

Wish I wasn't so far away! Would love to see ya! I might have to bring some bubbles. Oh wait that would probably make for some impulse buying!

You will just die if you come down to Texas in April for the antiques show in Round Top and Warrenton. When people ask me about it I explain to them that it is like Disney World but with Antiques and it takes 2 weeks to see it all. Love watching you hunt. HEidi
