You know all those lonely boxes of tarnished silver you find at junk shops and flea markets—the ones most people pass up in favor of the pretty, more polished type? Those are the ones I love because you never know what you’re going to find. Last April, when I got back from filming Top Design (where I’d been cut off from the outside world except for the occasional angry store clerk!), I was in such flea market withdrawal that for a full month afterward, everything I found (and loved!), I pretty much bought. And that includes this hotel silver mint dish from the old Waldorf Astoria (when it was still on lower 5th) that I found at the bottom of one of those lonely boxes in the corner.

I think small, footed things like this are so elegant at a table setting for individual salt or freshly cracked pepper.  This dish would also look great filled with pats of beautiful French
butter and served with homemade dinner rolls.
